Pastor Aaron H. Henson is the Senior Pastor of Henson Memorial Church of God in Christ Kansas City, KS. He is a visionary leader who is a charismatic, proactive, and provocative thinker born and bred in a Christian home. He is a fourth-generation member of the Church of God in Christ where his great grandfather was a Superintendent in the State of Kansas.
Pastor Aaron’s great grandfather Joseph W. Henson was a committed Christian in the ’20s who moved from Ringo, LA, and subsequently, brought his family into the Church of God in Christ church. Joseph’s commitment to the service of God as a servant leader and Pastor was passed down to his son Arie H. Henson Sr. who through God’s leading and wife’s support founded his ministry in 1955 now known as Henson Memorial Church of God in Christ (C.O.G.I.C). The baton of commitment didn’t stop there as it was later passed down to Arie’s grandson Pastor Aaron H. Henson.
Growing up, Pastor Aaron watched his grandfather, Superintendent, and Pastor minister to people. So, he envisioned himself in the same position due to his hunger and commitment to God’s work. That didn’t end there as he joined Christ Temple C.O.G.I.C. during his college days at Rust College in Holly Springs, MS. There, he sat under the tutelage of Superintendent Albert Pass between 1996 – 1999. As a very active and committed member of the church, Pastor Aaron joined the choir as a saxophonist and traveled wide with them. This allowed him to learn ministry from another perspective.
Upon graduation, he took up a sales position job with a company he had interned with back in Kansas. After a few months, he took up another job in Mississippi which gave him another opportunity to spend more time with Christ Temple as well as his finance, Christine E. Howard whom he wedded months later.
In 2002, the zeal and love for the work of God led Pastor Aaron into Public ministry. Since he already had some experience working and learning under great ministers of God, he knew what to do and how to do it with great joy. With his first sermon titled “Are You Ready to Walk on Your Water” from the book of Matthew 14, Pastor Aaron was ready to break boundaries and work for God as if he was making up for a lost time. He served in various auxiliary capacities in the church starting with coordinating bible studies to Sunday Morning services.
In 2004, Pastor Aaron was ordained as an elder. In 2005, he was appointed the Assistant Pastor of Henson Memorial C.O.G.I.C. He took on many projects in the church with his first capital project of reroofing the church costing up to $12,000 which he realized through organizing fundraising. Pastor Aaron is a man who works with God’s direction and has been blessed in many ways by God. He doesn’t fail to make sure whatever is needed to be done is done even if it meant doing it himself with his handyman skills.
In 2008, he got appointed by Bishop L.F. Thuston to serve in the capacity of Jurisdictional Missions President. With his grandfather’s approval, he accepted the assignment and served faithfully in full capacity. Despite moving his family to Memphis, TN in 2015, he commuted on weekends to Kansas City, KS just to make sure that there wasn’t any lapse in his role as the Assistant Pastor at Henson Memorial.
His transitional leadership or ascension into the capacity of the Senior Pastor began when his grandfather officially transitioned to Pastor Emeritus in May 2016. On February 20, 2017, the late, great Supt. Arie H. Henson Sr. slept in the Lord. On April 15, 2017, the baton was “officially passed” and Pastor Aaron H. Henson became the new Senior Pastor of Henson Memorial Church of God in Christ Kansas City, KS.
Celebrating 22 Years of Marriage, Aaron H. Henson and Christine Henson are parents to four wonderful children. With over two decades of active ministry, Pastor Aaron continues to preach the undiluted word of God as a leading voice of inspiration, innovation, and influence in the Christian society today.
